; genre=Drama; country=USA; Edward James Olmos; 8,7 of 10; 46 Vote. Windows on the world extinction rebellion. Windows on the world 9/11 victims. The picture has an artistic feel to it for me. It's got half of black lines and the other white lines. It's perfectly symmetrical with the man in the middle. Feels like an art piece to me.

Youve probably read posts about how various Google services keep getting changed or deleted for GSuite users. This didnt sit well with me, considering at least some of its users are paying customers. In theory, we should get better treatment from Google, not worse. So over the course of a few hours, I moved the major parts of my entire Google existence going back 12 years from GSuite to a free, regular old Gmail account. I commented on a thread about this and someone asked me how I did it, so I thought Id spell it out. I hoping to help folks and maybe discuss better ways to get it done. Foreword This is just what I did. Your mileage may vary. Do your due diligence before messing with important data. Dont delete anything until you know its safely backed up or on the new account. Before starting, I want to point you to Google Takeout. I highly recommend using this service to download and save everything you can to somewhere safe. It takes forever, but makes parts of the process easier and at the very least, provides some peace of mind. Pros Full Google Assistant and Google Home functionality. Saves money if you pay for your GSuite account. No risk that your employer will cut you off from your account. Can leave Play Store app reviews. Custom dictionaries for Google Keyboard are saved to the cloud, if you don't have a GSuite account installed on your phone. Thanks /u/alpain. Cons This is a lot of work. Youll lose your search history, online reviews and Local Guide status, music play counts, Google Assistant home control routines, minimal Google scanning of your files, and no free 150TB of storage. Youll lose your Google Rewards, but you can use them to buy a Play Store gift card, which might be better. but you can use an app called Convert King to convert them to PayPal dollars. I lost my 8/month Google Play Music rate, and now have to pay 12/month for YouTube Premium (which gives me GPM for free. You might have to tell everyone a new email address, unless you keep the old one. Email I didnt want to just forward every email in my GSuite account to the new account. That would take forever, and be messy. Google doesnt provide an easy way to transfer your emails from a GSuite account to a regular email account, so I used Mozilla Thunderbird as an intermediate step. Add both of your accounts, and import your entire inbox into Thunderbird. Once the emails are read into Thunderbird, which took me two hours, you can right click on each folder and select “Copy to…” to send it to the other account. Very handy, and free. After that was done, I set up IMAP checking of the old account, which conveniently pulls emails over. I also added the GSuite account info to the regular Gmail account settings, so I can select which account I want to send emails from (since I havent deleted my GSuite account yet. Contacts Use the Export function on the left of the page to save your contacts to a Google CSV file, swap to the new account, and import the file. I think you lose contact pictures in this process, so there might be a better way to do it. Calendar Settings > Import & Export to a file, swap to the new account, and import the file. Hangouts Im one of the last remaining humans still using this utterly lame platform. Some conversations were priceless to me and I wanted to keep them, so Takeout made that pretty easy. Unfortunately, it saves your conversation as JSON files, which aren't easy to read or import elsewhere, so I used the free decoder found by Jay2K1. this tool was really helpful. I switched over to a better non-Google platform during the big migration, since theres no way to import Hangouts discussions from a new account. Photos I thought this was going to be the end of the world, but Google actually made transferring 10 years worth of pictures pretty easy. Just share your pictures, albums, etc. to the new account and theyll show up in your new account. Once you see them all, select them all and do a “save to library” to make them yours on the new account. Beware: if youre like me and have a ton of photos on there, it takes a long time to populate. During the process, I was worried that dates and locations seemed to be wrong, but that all fixed itself by the time it was done. Just be patient. Google Play Music Before I tell you what I did, you should look into the app Soundiiz I mention below. I didn't know about it when I transferred my GPM collection, and I wish I did. I have an extensive music library on Google Play Music, so this was a huge concern for me. Doing this the hard way meant making a long list of artists, songs, and albums in my collection and individually adding them into the new account. Screw that. The Share functionality was very useful for this. For each playlist, I shared it to the new account. Swap to the new account, accept the share, select all, and do an “add to library. ” But what about several thousand songs in my library that werent in playlists? I certainly didnt want to select thousands of songs and individually share them over, so I made new playlists that contains my entire music collection. For example, I made a playlist with all of the songs I'd given a thumbs up, so those would be preserved. A complication is that Google only allows 500 songs in a playlist, so I had to make like 12 new playlists. It was a pain in the ass, but it got the job done. Another complication is uploaded music. Back in the day, I had to upload a lot of music to GPM because it didn't exist in their library. Today, not one song wasn't available in GPM. This took a while, but I went through my entire collection and took note of everything I had uploaded, then added each song to my library. If you have uploaded music that isn't in the GPM library, you might look into whether Google Takeout will download them, then swap accounts and re-upload them. YouTube This one was tough without help. I dont have a lot of uploaded videos, so that part was easy: just upload the originals to the new account. If you don't have the originals, Google Takeout will download them from the old account for you. Sure, I lost views and comments, but thats a bonus in my opinion. Clearly, if youre a content provider, this part might be a deal-breaker. Playlists and subscriptions were a different story. To transfer playlists, I used app called Soundiiz, which is 4. 50/month, to transfer playlists from the old account to the new one. I used that service for a few hours and then cancelled the service. It was well worth the five bucks. Theres no way to transfer subscriptions, so I had to manually enter those. I opened two windows side-by-side and went down the list. I have about 20, so it really only took about 5 minutes to search for a provider and click the subscribe button. /u/F5PPu6kGqj reports that YouTube subscriptions can be exported (but maybe not imported) from with YouTube Subscription Manager. YouTube Music This service is such a train wreck that I almost didnt bother. The aforementioned Soundiiz app transferred my songs from one account to the other, but a decent number of them showed up on the new account as videos of live performances or covers by crappy bands. I attribute this to the YTM library being much, much smaller than the Google Play Music library, so it had no choice than to downgrade to whatever video it could find. Beware: youll have to spend some time deleting these misidentifications, because some of them are really, really bad. Maps Youll have to set up home and work locations in your new account… no big deal. For saved locations, you can use the Share function to send them to your new account, and manually save each one. I only had half a dozen, so this was easy for me. If you have a lot of them, I havent tried this but you can probably make a map of all of them and share the entire map. Keep lists Keep lists are shareable, but if you delete them on the original account, they get deleted on all shared accounts. You can copy and paste from one note to another, but that is a lot of work. An easy way to do this is share each list to your new account, then switch to your new account and theyll all be there waiting for you. Select each one and choose Make a Copy, and that list will belong to you. You can delete the old list at this point. Web Passwords You can export your web site passwords stored in Chrome by going to Menu > Settings > Passwords > dot menu to the right of "Saved Passwords. Export Passwords. After you switch to your new account, you can import from that file back into Chrome with Menu > Settings > Import Bookmarks and Settings and select Bookmarks HTML file from the pulldown. Bookmarks I saved off my bookmarks to a file using Google Takeout. Most web browsers have an import/export functionality. Im dumb and use Chrome, so I used Settings > Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager > dot menu > Export to save them to a you switch to your new account, you can import from that file back into Chrome with Menu > Settings > Import Bookmarks and Settings > navigate to saved file. 2FA To the best of my knowledge, Google Authenticate doesn't provide any means to switch to new accounts, or any backup capability. You'll have to turn off 2FA for each account and reconnect it on your new account. I use Authy for 2-factor authentication, for exactly this reason; Authy allows you to change email addresses. Its a process that you should take very seriously, but its straight-forward and doesnt take too long. Everything transferred with no issues. Apps This was a bitter pill to swallow because I had a lot of paid apps accumulated over the years. I could live without many of them, but a few are super important to me and had to be purchased again. For free apps, I opened two browser windows, one with each account logged into the Play Store, and manually went down the list. I use a lot of apps, but this was pretty easy and only took about half an hour to search for each one and tell it to install. For paid apps, like I said, youre just going to have to buy them again. I didnt bother contacting the app authors; theyre under no obligation to help us out, but you might be able to convince them. Google Drive files I have about 50 files on my Google Drive. I used the Share function to move these over. It was pretty easy because you can share entire folders. Once they're accessible on your new account, right click and select Make a Copy. That will make the file belong to your new account and you can delete the old one. This should work for all Google Docs and Sheets documents you have online. Google Voice voicemails You can associate your GV number with a new Google account, but you cant bring your saved voicemails or SMS messages with you. I used Google Takeout to download them all for safe keeping before I initiated the swap to the new account. Theres no way to upload them to GV once its linked to the new account, so I just keep them on a hard drive now. EDIT 1: Thanks for the upvotes and coinage! Added a link to Convert King, which lets you convert Google Rewards money to PayPal. Added a link to YouTube Subscription Manager. Added loss of minimal Google scanning of your files and free 150TB of storage to Cons. Thanks /u/Ripdog and /u/port53.

Disclaimer The information in the next section entitled "UNOFFICIAL survival guide" is content written by members of general public This section aims to share sensible, thought-provoking tips from people who have been through a bushfire recently and genuinely want to help the community by sharing their knowledge. You'll need to consider, evaluate and adapt these suggestions to your own circumstances, if appropriate. The goal of this page is only to elaborate upon the formal advice provided by fire authorities. The official guidance and advice from fire authorities will always take precedence over anything written on this page. UNOFFICIAL Bushfire Survival Guide Unless you live in a concrete jungle, you should expect your home to be under threat from fire sometime within the next couple of months Prepare early. Leave before the fire forces you to leave. Do not wait for "permission" to leave, or for someone to knock on your door. If in doubt, get out. The earlier you leave, the better your chances of survival. If you're not being threatened by a bushfire, please get off the road. Prepare your FAMILY: Relocate you children, elderly and pets NOW. Make them safe, before there is an emergency. You will want your dependent loved-ones to be already safe and well out of harm's way, well before there is an imminent fire threat. You will want to be able to completely focus on defending your property. Leave animals behind if you have to. People have died going back for pets and livestock. It sucks, but sometimes it has to be done. Only put other people in the car if you are ready to go NOW. Never put people in a car, and then return to the house. In more than one instance in 2009, parents put children in the car, went back to the house, and then returned to find the car on fire. Never leave people in a car near a fire. Keep the authorities informed about your plans, and especially if there are any vulnerable people at risk Turn on "Location Sharing" within Google Maps, on your phone, to share with your friends/family This is a very useful tool Prepare your ESCAPE: Don't let yourself get trapped and surrounded. Always have at least 2 different escape plans. If under immediate threat from a fire, never travel up hill to escape. Fire travels much faster up hill than down hill. Travelling across the face of the fire (just as a surfer travels across the face of a wave) helps you get out of it's path. Travelling through burnt out areas is safer than travelling through green areas. Prepare your CAR: Ensure you have petrol Put several containers of water in the car. Carry as much water as you can. Put a first-aid kit in the car Put 1 woolen blanket per person in the car Bring a car-charger for your phone Bring your wallet/credit card/drivers licence & passport (however, if your passport is burnt, you can get a free replacement) Never leave a car running on or near long grass, this will possibly cause a fire Only put people in the car if you are ready to go NOW. (refer to FAMILY section) Prepare for NO MOBILE SIGNAL: Fires often disable power and phone networks Discuss rendezvous plan with family/neighbours, so you are all on the same page, even if you can't communicate with them Nearly all smart phones will simply stop working when they get too hot Download 'offline maps' in Google maps (simple. Alternatively, apps such as ( Android, Apple) may offer more detail than Google Maps (ensure you zoom all the way in to download the map for your state, before you start driving) Prepare for INJURY: Don't travel alone Don't be reckless YOUR EMERGENCY REFUGE: GOOD REFUGES: The ideal refuge is a sealed, insulated, non flammable building with a series of firebreak 'rings' surrounding it. Plan early, leave early, and you get the chance to shelter in one of these. AVERAGE REFUGES: A large farm dam, deep creek with flowing water, a river with flowing water, a lake, or the ocean are relatively safe. The movement of the water helps to cool the air, and cycle hot and cold air across the top of the water. Still water is never a better option than sheltering inside a solid structure. BAD REFUGES: Residential pools, water tanks, and bathrooms are not safe refuges. In a pool, the air above the water superheats, and you die of internal burns. In a water tank you will be basically steamed. In a bathroom all the tiles, glass, and pipe works superheat. Prepare your HOME: Clog your gutters (eg, wrap tennis balls in rags, to clog the outlets) and fill the gutters with water Put on the sprinklers (don't do this too early: conserve your limited water resources) Firefighters often have a lot of trouble finding enough water to put out fires. If you have a dam, pool or water tank which is full of water, put a large and obvious sign, indicating the presence of a Static Water Supply, where your driveway meets the road. Make sure it can be seen by vehicles travelling in either direction. If you have a Static Water Supply and you're expecting to defend your property: At Bunnings you can buy Ozito fire hoses, firefighting pumps, and supply hoses. Specifically, these supply hoses won't collapse under vacuum pressure when connected to a pump. These could easily be combined with a 500-900L tank on the back of a single cab ute for a private light duty vehicle. Even if you don't buy a pump, you can buy a firefighting rakehoe such as a McLeod tool from Bunnings. This is a great help in creating fire breaks around your home. STAYING TO DEFEND YOUR HOME? A REALITY CHECK For even a moderate fire, the radiant heat is so extreme that you won't physically be able to get close enough to the fire to put water onto it. Radiant heat can kill people from 20 meters away. If you haven't already taken significant steps to allow you to defend your house during a bushfire, then unfortunately it's probably too late to safely defend your property. If you have a weatherboard property, your property is 'bushland' or you live on the side of a hill, you're a sitting duck. If you fall into this category, you need to simply flee the area immediately and leave your house in the highly capable hands of the fire fighters. Don't become a liability for the firefighters. Defending a property is only a viable option if the property is well prepared and if you are physically and psychologically up to the arduous task. If you are in doubt then you should leave early. You should expect your water pressure to fall as your neighbours also open all their taps. You should expect your hoses to melt, crack and fail. IF YOU ARE STAYING TO DEFEND YOUR HOME: Fill bathtub, bins, buckets with water as early as possible Get rid of any flammable materials from around your house/structure, such as doormats, shrubs, gas bottles, outdoor furniture. If you have windows near the ground then remove any organic material and take it back to bare earth around them. Move all flammable materials inside the house away from windows (eg furniture, curtains etc. Put pets/kids in one room that has two exits, on the far side of the home from the fire front. Dress in durable natural fibre clothing and leather gloves and boots leaving absolutely minimal skin exposed. Grab a thick tea-towel or similar to wrap around your face. Set up a ladder to access the roof cavity. As the fire front approaches patrol the exterior of your home extinguishing spot fires. As the fire front passes over seek shelter inside your home. As soon as safe to do so patrol the inside of your home (including roof cavity) extinguishing fires, then the outside. Continue until no embers fall - several to dozens of hours. Prepare your GEAR: Overalls or jeans/thick cotton shirt button up to the neck/chin, strap down around the wrists/ankles close any gaps between your clothing - ie, white hot coals can enter your boots or gloves, or go up the leg of your pants, go up your arm, or down your shirt front/back, or down your backside. remove any nylon/polyester clothing, it melts onto your skin like napalm Thick cotton/wool socks consider wearing two pairs of socks. Leather boots steel capped boots are recommended (My personal experience is that steel capped Blundstones become very hot around the toes while fighting fires, especially if you're wearing thin socks. Therefore, wear thick socks) Helmet large tree branches can drop on you Goggles must be sealed to face smoke/embers will still go in the side/bottom of sunglasses. Sunglasses are completely useless. Leather gloves absolutely essential Face mask get one specifically designed to filter smoke (a "P2" filter) eg from Bunnings. Recommendation from Australian government. buy a Ventolin over-the-counter from the pharmacy ( 7) Drinking water you will drink much, much more than you think. You may need to give water to someone carry minimum 10L of dedicated, clean, drinking water. Backpack Weed-Sprayer one of the most useful firefighting tools I've discovered allows you to carry 15L of water with minimal strain, and it allows you put out small spot fires quickly, using only a tiny amount of water per spot fire. 15L of water goes a hell of a long way when you are using this backpack Shovel consider the effect of heat on the handle. Will it burn? Will it become hot to hold, if you happen to not be wearing leather gloves? Chainsaw fill it with fuel 'Go Bag' Pack a go bag containing a change of clothes, shoes, chargers, battery powered radio and batteries, ready-to-eat food, medications, pet's medications and food, identity documents (even though DFAT offers free replacement passports) phone numbers of family and neighbours, cash, hygiene products, water and a first-aid kit (with additional sheets of cling wrap) Lastly: Things to do in the winter, BEFORE the fire season starts: Go around your house filming all your valuable possessions, then upload this video to the cloud. This can be used as proof of ownership in an insurance claim. Create several concentric fire-breaks, each as a ring minimum 5 meters wide, around all STRUCTURES. Install fire-sprinklers around the perimeter of structures. Buy a photo scanner with a sheet feeder. Digitise all your family photos in less than a couple of hours. Upload these photos to the cloud. Never worry about them again. Ensure everyone in your family has completed a First-Aid / CPR course. People have gone into cardiac arrest while fighting fires. Ensure everyone in your family has formally created their will Ensure you have taken out home and contents, life insurance and income protection insurance (if available) Further resources: Credit: u/iamjacksonmolloy (and others) NATIONAL Resources Call 000 in emergencies (alternatively, try 112) Call State Emergency Service (SES) on 132 500 National Warnings (Bureau of Meteorology) Lifeline (24h counselling service) Call 13 1114 Kids Help Line (counselling for young people) Call 1800 55 1800 Resources to support family mental wellbeing (Australian Government) Resources for parents (Red Cross) Financial assistance options (Australian government) Call 180 22 66 Assistance options MAP (Australian government) Financial support (ATO) Get support (Salvation Army) Get support (Red Cross) Apply for a Grant (Red Cross) Apply for a Grant (Commonwealth Bank) Apply for a Grant (National Australia Bank) Firefighters / SES only: Apply for a discount on your gas or electricity bill (AGL) Apply for 0 phone bill during the fire season ( Telstra, Optus and Vodafone) Podcast for after the emergency (Red Cross) Digital Earth Australia - Hotspots (This is just 'possible' fires, detected by satellite. Particle Physics is at the cutting edge of Philisophy. Einstein may have proved that Time was the Fourth Dimension, Physicists have eleven dimensions apparently, four plus the proverbial Seven Heavens. I don't claim to understand this stuff. In this area it is very hard to sort out information from disinformation. Still breaks my heart to think of that terrible day in American history.

Illustration: Cat Finnie A new licence for Windows 10 costs 119. 99 bought direct from the Microsoft website. However, it might be possible for you to upgrade your computer for free. Follow our step-by-step guide to installing Windows 10 on your Windows 7 PC If you're still using Windows 7, it's time to upgrade: after a decade of support, Microsoft is ending support for Windows 7. Microsoft is aiming to move all Windows users on to Windows 10, which is the 'final version' there won't be a Windows 11; instead Microsoft will put out feature updates twice a year as well as regular security updates. So long as you keep your computer up-to-date, your Windows 10 will always be supported. In a recent survey of 1, 013 Which? members, we found that 13% were still using Windows 7 on their main computer, while some 30% of people around the world were still using Windows 7. Not everyone is going to be able to upgrade for free, but here's how to check and proceed. What to do first For the best chance of getting a free upgrade, your current version of Windows 7 must be legal and activated with Microsoft. Check this using Control Panel from the Start Menu, clicking on System and Security, and then System. At the bottom, it will say if the licence is activated. Youll need to be on Windows 7 Service Pack 1 – if your PC is up to date, this should already be the case. Check your PC exceeds the minimum requirements on Microsoft's website. Agree to the terms and conditions You now need to get the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. Head to the Windows 10 download page   and select Download tool now. Once the files downloaded, open it and agree to the various terms and conditions that are required. Select Upgrade this PC now when given the choice. If you dont have enough space on your hard disk, you might need to free up space and run the installation from a USB stick. The setup will guide you through this. Keep files or start afresh? You will be given the choice as to whether you want to keep your files and programs, or start afresh with none of your programs and files.
